While most of us are familiar with Gresham‘s Law, we should remember that it does not mean that bad money is preferred to good money. Instead, it refers to a situation in which government mandates that inferior and superior money legally have the same face value.

Walmart Canada says it’s getting rid of property controls relating to retail competition across the country. The grocery industry’s use of property controls, which are terms baked into commercial leases that put restrictions on other tenants and their activities, has recently come under scrutiny. Walmart said Friday it decided to “unilaterally waive any competitive retail restrictions” and is in the process of notifying its landlords and other landowners of the change. The Competition Bureau is investigating the use of these restrictive clauses by Loblaw and Sobeys, and has said they are hampering competition in the grocery sector. In October, Loblaw said it would eliminate its use of commercial property controls if other grocers did the same. Since this will be the last WPS before Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who reads this little feature, which will enter its third year on 12/31. For those who have been with me since the start, thank you. For those who may be new to this column, welcome. Writing the WPS is one of the highlights of my week. On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson refused to say if Scientific American was wrong to claim that the differences between male and female athletes are due to biases and proclaimed “Let’s talk about science” while being questioned on the matter. Host Bill Maher said that while he disagrees with the recent posts by now former Editor-in-Chief Laura Helmuth about the 2024 election, they weren’t really the scandal, “what I think is the scandal, this is in Scientific American, less than a year ago, ‘Inequity between male and female athletes is a result not of inherent biological differences between the sexes but of biases in how they are treated in sports.’ That’s nuts. And it sure ain’t scientific, and it’s in Scientific American. And that’s why the Democrats lost the election. Trump nominates hedge fund manager Scott Bessent to head of Treasury Department

President-elect Donald Trump announced the nomination of Scott Bessent, a hedge fund manager, to head the Treasury Department, on Friday evening. Bessent, who is 62 years old, founded the macro fund Key Square Group in 2015 and is openly gay. ‘I was all in for President Trump. I was one of the few Wall Street people backing him.’ Trump previously referred to Bessent as “one of the most brilliant men on Wall Street.” Bessent is from a small town in South Carolina and studied at Yale before ending up on Wall Street working at Soros Fund Management. When he started Key Square Group, left-wing billionaire George Soros invested $2 billion in the fund. Bessent has been a donor and supporter of Trump as well as an economic advisor in the 2024 presidential campaign. He also worked as a top fundraiser. We here at Twitchy have covered a lot — A LOT — of the biased, woke, Left-wing insanity of the media. It’s kinda our bread and butter, and it’s fascinating to watch how the media have so willingly self-immolated in service of the Democratic Party. It’s done nothing to help them.
