The remarks are the first time that the vice president has spoken publicly since her Nov. 6 concession speech. Vice President Kamala Harris, who returned this week from a post-election vacation in Hawaii, told supporters during a call with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Nov. 26 that they still have power, even in uncertain times. “The outcome of this election, obviously, is not what we wanted. It is not what we work so hard for, but I am proud of the race we ran,” Harris said in the early part of her remarks, as she praised her former running mate. A look at the day ahead in U.S. and global markets from Mike Dolan With Wall Street about to log off for what’s effectively a four-day Thanksgiving holiday, trade tariff jitters are replaced by inflation angst as the Federal Reserve gets another price check. Although big automakers took a hit, broad U.S. stock indexes seemed unperturbed on Tuesday by President-elect Donald Trump’s threat of 25% tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China. The main heat was in the Mexican peso, Canadian dollar and their related bourses – while stocks in Europe, Japan and South Korea wobbled again. But the gained more than half a percentage point through the session, closing back above 6,000 at another record high. Futures were back off marginally ahead of today’s bell. With trading thinning this week, stocks are still feeding off assumptions about the extent of Trump’s agenda of tax cuts, tariff rises and immigration crackdowns. U.S. District Court in Delaware is auctioning shares in PDV Holding to repay $21.3 billion in claims against Venezuela and state-oil firm PDVSA for expropriations and debt defaults. The recommendation in a court filing came after an up to $7.3 billion bid by an affiliate of activist fund Elliott Investment Management failed to win support from creditors. At least two groups had told the court they could present offers if allowed to re-enter the bidding contest. Court adviser Robert Pincus proposed to re-launch the auction after being admonished by the judge for a lack of an agreement that met terms set more than a year ago. The adviser had granted Elliott exclusive negotiating rights and would have let it defer payments, conditions that creditors said unduly favored Elliott. In the spring of 1946, Kiyoshi Tanimoto, a Japanese Methodist minister who had been educated in the United States, and Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist John Hersey came together for a project of dire importance — to preserve the stories of those who had survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. “If you can’t tell this story to the world, we are going to die twice,” Tanimoto told Hersey, whose accounting was published in The New Yorker magazine on Aug. 31, 1946 — almost a year after the bombs destroyed both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Groundbreaking research published in Nature Immunology offers new hope for patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of lung cancer. One of the things I truly hope happens in the Donald Trump administration — complete with a GOP-controlled House and Senate — is the pursuit of consequences for Democratic politicians who lie about abortion. But Chrissy Teigen and People joined forces to classify her miscarriage care as an ‘abortion’ (an alarming, nefarious attempt by the Left to normalize abortion by shifting language to equate abortion to miscarriage care and childbirth). Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times also lied about Nevada’s anti-abortion laws, trying to blame those laws for the arrest of a mom who intentionally caused a miscarriage. It’s a damning indictment of the Left that, much like making up racist incidents, they need to lie about anti-abortion laws. This tells me that anti-abortion laws aren’t actually killing women.
