VOLODYMYR Zelensky’s potential successors could be preparing their campaigns to be the leader of Ukraine.

After Donald Trump slammed him as a “dictator”, the brave president said on Sunday he would step down if Ukraine could join Nato – thereby securing its defence.

That’s left ambitious Ukrainians rubbing their hands at the thought of being taking the top job – but who could fill the very large shoes left by Zelensky?

Former heavyweight boxing world champion Vitali Klitschko is the current mayor of Kyiv.

The 6ft 7in giant has led the capital through constant Russian bombing, was a key figure in the Euromaidan protests, and has been in office since all the way back since 2008.

With a 47-2 boxing record, he is 8-2 on elections he has fought.

Klitschko has also shown ambition to lead the country and was set to run for President in 2014 before he dropped out and endorsed Petro Poroshenko.

The boxer has led the city through daily bombardments by Russian drones and has become a powerful symbol of the city’s defence joining the territorial defence forces.

Japanese banks to rethink security measures for safe-deposit boxes

Japan’s biggest banks and regional lenders are tightening controls on the management of safe-deposit boxes after a string of thefts involving bank employees rocked public confidence. The incidents have intensified scrutiny of a segment already grappling with weak demand and thin margins. The latest blow came last Tuesday when Mizuho Bank publicly disclosed that a former employee had stolen assets worth tens of millions of yen from two customers’ safe-deposit boxes in 2019. While the theft had been reported to the Financial Services Agency (FSA) at the time, Mizuho Bank had kept the incident under wraps. Pharmacies Facing ‘Financial Cliff Edge’ Due to Looming Tax Hikes, Industry Leaders Say

The National Pharmacy Association said that unless the government provides certainty on funding, it will recommend members take collective action. The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has said pharmacies face a “financial cliff edge” due to rising taxes announced in the Autumn Budget. The NPA said on Monday that the increase to employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs) and the minimum wage means that pharmacies face £250 million in unplanned costs. Nick Kaye, chairman of the NPA, said: “Pharmacies face a financial cliff edge at the beginning of April, with a triple whammy of rising National Insurance, National Living Wage and business rates all arriving at once. “At the moment, they still have no certainty if any of these costs will be met by the Government, despite assurances for other parts of the health system including our GP colleagues.” Kaye added that community pharmacies have been closing “in record numbers,” and that those which are left “are currently hanging on by their fingernails.” The body, which represents 6,000 independent community pharmacies across the UK, said that without urgent clarity from the government on financial support, their… […]
Pope Francis Remains in Critical Condition Despite Signs of Overnight Improvement

Pope Francis continues to be hospitalized in critical condition for a complex respiratory infection, including double pneumonia and bronchitis and is currently resting after receiving high-flow oxygen treatment. “The night went well; the Pope slept and is resting,” the Holy See Press Office said in a statement published Monday. Francis, the 88-year-old pope who was elected in 2013, had been in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital for the past 10 days for treatment of bronchitis, which he had been dealing with for a week prior to his hospitalization. However, his condition worsened after severe breathing difficulties were reported Saturday morning, NPR reported. On Sunday, the pope’s medical team noted he had also shown signs of “mild” kidney failure, but the Vatican asserted that was under control. Francis was also diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, a condition characterized by a low count of the platelets in blood that help to form clots.
