Russia & The US’ Diplomatic Choreography At The UN Shows Their Commitment To A “New Détente”

Any claims of Russia “backstabbing” or “selling out” China are absurd and driven by a desire to sow discord…

The “New Détente”, which refers to the ongoing efforts between Russia and the US to enter into a rapprochement in the New Cold War similar in spirit to what they agreed to half a century ago during the Old Cold War, is no longer speculation after the US’ pivot towards Russia at the UN. The US joined Russia in vetoing a resolution from the General Assembly that condemned Russia for its special operation and then Russia sided with the US in supporting the latter’s more neutral one in the Security Council.

This diplomatic choreography was clearly coordinated between Putin and Trump to show the entire world that they’re committed to the “New Détente”. In parallel with what was unfolding on the world stage, each leader also spoke highly about the future of their economic ties, with Trump hyping everyone up to expect “major economic transactions” while Putin hinted at cooperation in the aluminum and rare earth industries. On Tuesday President Donald Trump signed an order revoking security clearances for employees of Covington & Burling LLP, a law firm that provided legal assistance to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office. The move comes as part of Trump’s effort to combat what he calls the “weaponization of government” by legal and political opponents. At a press conference announcing the decision, Trump was in characteristic form, labeling Smith “deranged” and calling the executive action the “Deranged Jack Smith Signing.” He then tossed a Sharpie to a reporter, joking, “Why don’t you send it to Jack Smith?” The order suspends and places under review the security clearances of attorneys and employees from Covington & Burling who worked with Smith’s team. “We’re going to continue holding the people who were responsible for the weaponization of government accountable,” a senior official stated during the press event. Karl-Anthony Towns practiced Tuesday after leaving Sunday’s game briefly against Boston and said he would see how his knee felt Wednesday before determining whether he’d play against the 76ers at Madison Square Garden. Towns was listed as questionable on the injury report, while Josh Hart also practiced Tuesday and Tom Thibodeau expected him to be good for Wednesday’s game after missing two straight with a knee injury before returning Sunday. Towns is averaging 24.8 points and a career-best 13.5 rebounds per game. Asked if he believed he was having the best season of his career, Towns said: “I don’t know. I don’t know.
