UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Donald Trump met at the White House to tackle a few topics.

Some of these were Ukraine’s security to potential trade deals.

Starmer extended an invitation from King Charles III for a state visit, while Trump hinted at possible tariff exemptions for the UK.

Meanwhile the Union Jack was flying upside down outside Blair House during Prime Minister’s stay.

Traditionally a distress signal, this adds a twist to the UK-US discussions.

Perhaps it’s a mistake.

The U.S. State Department confirmed Wednesday that the Trump administration is eliminating thousands of foreign assistance awards and grants at the U.S. Agency for International Development. Peter Marocco, brought in by Secretary of State Marco Rubio to help run USAID, said in a statement to the federal district court presiding over two consolidatedlawsuits brought against the administration by aid organizations that following a review, Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided to cut roughly 92% of the agency’s grants, reported NPR. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, acting administrator for USAID, has said that the agency will likely face reorganization. The Trump administration says it is eliminating more than 90 percent of foreign aid contracts and grants with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). In all, the administration stated that it would eliminate 5,800 of 6,200 multiyear USAID contract awards, for a cut of $54 billion. Another 4,100 of 9,100 State Department grants were being eliminated, for a cut of $4.4 billion. The move to axe funding is part of President Donald Trump’s wider efforts to weed out government waste and fraud. USAID has been one of the first targets of the new federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an advisory panel led by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk. The latest cutoff has created panic among the nonprofit organizations and businesses that launched legal action against the Trump administration.
