Panama’s President Says There Will Be No Negotiation Over Canal’s Ownership: ‘It’s Impossible’

Panama’s president said on Thursday that he will not hold any negotiations about ownership of the Panama Canal, following President Donald Trump’s suggestion the United States could take ownership of the waterway again.
In his weekly news conference on Thursday, Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino said he wanted to clarify confusion about China’s role in the canal and said that Panama controls the canal.
“It’s impossible, I can’t negotiate,” Mulino said when asked about returning the canal to U.S. control. “That is done. The canal belongs to Panama.”
Referring to future dialogues with U.S. officials, he said, “The only thing that I want is to clear all the garbage from the path, clean the table and be able to speak with the United States and very frankly” about issues including illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and regional security.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet with Mulino on Sunday and visit the canal.
When asked whether Panama could remove concessions from companies linked to China, Mulino said this was not on the table and that the government was awaiting the results of a review of CK Hutchison’s payments to the state,…

Paging J.B. Pritzker! Scary Report Shows ZERO Students Reading on Grade Level at THIRTY Illinois Schools – Twitchy

‘We have to invest more in education!’
‘Dismantling the Department of Education will harm public schools!’
‘If we spent more on our students, test scores would improve!’

These are just some of the arguments the Left has offered in defense of public schools. Now, this writer knows some really good public schools and some phenomenal teachers. Sadly, they’re the exception and not the rule.
There is something very, very wrong with public education in America. We spend quite a bit on teaching our kids and we don’t see that reflected in the metrics that demonstrate learning. Like test scores:

Not a single student can read at grade level in 30 Illinois schools. pic.twitter.com/EIF3DvZJm2

Wow.
Just wow.
When the Left says we need to ‘invest’ in education, they forget that ‘invest’ means to ‘expend money with the expectation of achieving a profit or material result.’
Investment in education means we would see higher test scores that demonstrate proficiency in some of the basic skills every student should have: like reading and math.
But here are 30 schools in Illinois where ZERO students are proficient in…

NASA’s Unadulterated Space Dust May Offer Clues to Life Beyond Earth

(Headline USA) Asteroid samples fetched by NASA hold not only the pristine building blocks for life but also the salty remains of an ancient water world, scientists reported Wednesday.
The findings provide the strongest evidence yet that asteroids may have planted the seeds of life on Earth and that these ingredients were mingling with water almost right from the start.
“That’s the kind of environment that could have been essential to the steps that lead from elements to life,” said the Smithsonian Institution’s Tim McCoy, one of the lead study authors.
NASA’s Osiris-Rex spacecraft returned 4 ounces of dust and pebbles from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu, delivering the sample canister to the Utah desert in 2023 before swooping off after another space rock. It remains the biggest cosmic haul from beyond the moon. The two previous asteroid sample missions, by Japan, yielded considerably less material.
Small amounts of Bennu’s precious black grains—leftovers from the solar system’s formation 4.5 billion years ago—were doled out to the two separate research teams whose studies appeared in the journals Nature and Nature Astronomy. But it was more than enough to…

A former senior advisor to Barack Obama has been sentenced to 11 and a half years in prison.
Rahamim Shy, 47, was arrested in February 2024 by police in the United Kingdom after travelling to the country with a view to meeting a nine-year-old girl for sex.
Shy had reportedly planned the meeting for around a month, speaking with an individual named “Debbie” who said she was the child’s grandmother, the BBC reports.
However, the woman in question was an undercover police officer.

REVEALED: Former Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Senior Policy Advisor Charged with Child Sex Offenses

During his trial, the court heard how Shy had described in gruesome detail how he would abuse the girl, despite the fact that her age of nine was a “tad late.”
Nevertheless, he insisted it would be an “honor” to be “her first.”
Upon his arrest, law enforcement found toys and condoms in his luggage, while his phone contained indecent images of children.
On Wednesday, Shy was found guilty at Luton Crown Court of arranging the commission of a child sex…

BOOM! NTSB Chair Calls Out Media Hypocrisy on Crash Speculation – PJ Media

The National Transportation Safety Board just gave an update on last night’s midair collision between an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines commuter flight. More than 60 individuals are presumed dead, and recovery efforts continue in the Potomac River.

Unsurprisingly, there wasn’t a lot of new information—with one exception: board member J. Todd Inman stated that “no chutes or slides were deployed” subsequent to the crash, indicating that there was no time to deploy emergency evacuation procedures.
A reporter from NBC, Tom Costello, asked NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy, “Does it hurt your investigation process to have the president already suggesting possible causes here as you try to keep in mind and begin this investigation?”
Homendy wasn’t having it. “Tom, with all due respect, I think the press also likes to state what probable cause is before we get to the probable cause. So what I’m going to say is you need to give us time.”

WOW!
NBC’s Tom Costello: “Does it hurt your investigative process, maybe for the chairman, does it hurt the investigative process to have the President already suggesting possible causes here as you…

Trump’s Comments on D.C. Plane Crash ‘Sickening, It Turns My Stomach’

Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Chris Jansing Reports” that President Donald Trump’s comments at a press briefing about Wednesday night’s deadly air crash were “sickening.”
Jansing said, “Let me ask you about what President Trump had to say today, because he had two specific points of criticism. One is that the NTSB, he said, history tells us takes a very long time to come to a conclusion and he felt that the American people deserved answers. So he put some of his own ideas out there, including suggesting that DEI diversity, equity and inclusion policies had somehow played a role in this crash. What’s your reaction?”
Kaine said, “Well, my reaction is, that’s sickening. It turns my stomach. Imagine you’re a you’re a family member and you’re grieving the loss of a family member and you have the President of the United States telling you that your loved one was killed because of DEI, when he has zero evidence.”
He added, “And I mean zero, I mean less than zero to suggest that that’s true. It’s been reported today that President Trump scrapped an aviation safety board that was advising the DHS on January 22nd, maybe he…

Stunning Details Revealed On Staffing At DCA Air Traffic Control During Deadly Collision

A quiet evening over Washington, D.C., turned into a national tragedy Wednesday night as a midair collision between an American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter sent both aircraft plunging into the frigid waters of the Potomac River. The deadly crash near Reagan National Airport claimed 67 lives—the worst such incident since 2001.
President Trump confirmed Thursday morning that there were no survivors aboard American Eagle Flight 5342, which was en route from Wichita, Kansas, with 60 passengers and four crew members. The Army Black Hawk, conducting routine operations in restricted airspace, also went down with its crew.
Recovery efforts were underway as authorities worked in harsh winter conditions to retrieve bodies from the wreckage. Now, troubling new details have emerged about the circumstances leading up to the disaster.
An internal report from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reveals that staffing at the air traffic control tower at Reagan National Airport was “not normal” on the night of the accident. The controller on duty was reportedly handling responsibilities typically divided between two people.

World champion Russian skaters reportedly on plane involved in midair collision

Moscow –
Russian ice skating coaches and former world champions Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were on board the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac River in Washington on Wednesday night, Russian state media reported.
Shishkova and Naumov, who were married, won the world championship in pairs in 1994 and had reportedly lived in the United States since at least 1998, where they trained young ice skaters.
Their son Maxim, who competed for the United States in singles, was also feared to have been on the plane, Russia’s TASS and RIA news agencies reported. He had been competing at the U.S. figure skating championships, which were held in Wichita, Kansas, from Jan. 20-26, according to the event’s website.
The couple were reported to have been returning from the competition and traveling with a group of young skaters. Russia’s Mash news outlet published a list of 13 skaters, many of them the children of Russian emigres to the United States, who it said were believed to have been on the plane.
Inna Volyanskaya, a former skater who competed for the Soviet Union, was also reported…
