“Ancient Ruins and Archaeology” takes readers on a tour of some of the greatest historical ruins in the world

The book explores the enduring mystery of Atlantis, an ancient civilization said to have been destroyed in a catastrophic event, as described by Plato.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is highlighted as a testament to ancient Egyptian engineering, standing as the tallest man-made structure for over 3,800 years and showcasing the ambition of the civilization.

The ancient stone circle of Stonehenge in England is discussed, with its purpose remaining a mystery. Theories range from its being a burial place, a celestial calendar, or a temple for a lost solar deity.

The book covers the discovery of Troy by Heinrich Schliemann, proving the city’s existence and bridging the gap between myth and history. It also explores the ruins of Ma’rib in Yemen.

The book highlights various ruins around the world, including Great Zimbabwe, Tintagel Castle, Angkor Wat, Tikal, Machu Picchu, Nan Madol and Easter Island.

“Ancient Ruins and Archaeology,” a book by L. Sprague and Catherine De Camp, takes readers on a journey through some of the world’s most enigmatic historical monuments and…

More than 50 volunteers traveled from all over the United States to participate in the mission—serving meals, providing essential services, donating life-saving supplies, and restoring dignity to the front lines of America’s border crisis.
Partnering with rancher and renowned chef Austin Simmons, the initiative provided over 600 Border Patrol agents, National Guard soldiers, and local and state law enforcement officers with premium Texas Wagyu beef meals as a token of gratitude for their unwavering service.

NFL eyeing possible onside kick, kickoff changes after inaugural season

The NFL will take a look at a number of kickoff rule changes this offseason after the league was happy with the way the new kickoff rule worked in its first season in 2024.
Among the ideas that would be looked at are giving teams possession of the ball at the 35-yard line instead of the 30 and moving the ball from the 30-yard line back five yards on kickoffs, NFL Competition Committee chairman and Falcons CEO Rich McKay told reporters.
The league is also looking to explore possible alternatives to the onside kick.

“If something is going to be proposed as far as modifications … which would be the potential of moving the touchback and/or moving the kicker back, I think those will get talked about, you know, within the next 30 days,” McKay said, according to the Washington Post. “But it’ll take a little while before we get everybody’s input.”
Any proposed rule change needs to be approved by 24 of the 32 teams in the NFL.

The NFL’s competition committee could also examine a…

Emergency services rushed to the scene near Moreton Island, Queensland, Australia, just after 3pm on Saturday.
The man was treated at the scene before being flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition, a Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokeswoman said.
Authorities have yet to confirm what species of shark was involved in Saturday’s attack.

Japan wary of North Korea’s practical combat experience in Ukraine war

North Korea’s participation in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which gives its troops the opportunity to gain practical combat experience, signals that the war is starting to affect the security situation in East Asia and making the Japanese government wary of the possibility of Pyongyang beefing up its military capabilities.
“The military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, including the dispatch of North Korean troops in the war, is expected to cause the situation in Ukraine to deteriorate even further, and we should be seriously concerned over the matter in light of the impact on the security environment surrounding our country,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a news conference Friday.
At a meeting in Pyongyang in June last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement calling for mutual support in the event of an emergency.

Most USAID workers to be fired or placed on leave

Most employees at USAID will be placed on leave or fired by midnight on Sunday, the aid agency said, as President Donald Trump’s administration plows ahead in slashing government spending.
Around 1,600 workers based in the United States will be laid off in a “reduction-in-force” effort, according to a notice on the US Agency for International Development’s website.
All other staff directly hired by USAID will be placed on administrative leave globally, except those responsible for “mission-critical functions, core leadership and/or specially designated programs.”
The move is a step forward in Trump’s effort to dismantle USAID, which has more than 10,000 employees and operates an array of humanitarian and development programs around the world.
The agency announced earlier this month that all staff would be placed on administrative leave — a directive that faced legal challenges.
But on Friday, a federal judge lifted an order pausing the Trump administration’s implementation of plans to gut USAID.
In its statement on Sunday, the agency said that remaining staff expected to continue working would be informed by management by 5:00 pm (2200 GMT)…

Medicare Battle: Albanese Calls Dutton’s $9 Billion Plan ‘Pure Politics’

On Feb. 23, Dutton announced a $9 billion investment in Medicare, matching Labor’s proposed $8.5 billion plan.
The Medicare debate has once again taken centre stage in the lead-up to the Australian federal election, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese dismissing Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s latest pledge as mere political manoeuvring.
“What we saw from the opposition yesterday was just pure politics. It’s what they did prior to 2013, and then the 2014 Budget papers are very clear about $50 billion of cuts to hospitals,” Albanese said on Feb. 24.
He further criticised the Coalition’s past approach to healthcare, recalling their attempts to introduce a GP co-payment, increase pharmaceutical costs, and impose fees on emergency department visits.
Albanese pointed out that Dutton, during his tenure as health minister, was once voted the worst health minister in history by the Australian Medical Association (AMA).
“The thing with Peter Dutton is that you get thought bubbles,” Albanese added.

Social Media Reactions to Joy Reid’s Oh-So-Deserved MSNBC Firing Are Priceless – RedState

As RedState’s Bonchie reported earlier Sunday, bitter, race-baiting MSNBC anchor Joy Reid was finally fired. That it took so long after all the hate she has spewed out on the airwaves is stunning, as Bonchie wrote:

I suppose MSNBC deserves some credit for finally making the necessary move, but only a little. They let Reid fester and spread her mouth-breathing hate for far longer than they should have, and it shouldn’t have taken an over 50 percent drop in ratings to get to this point.

Naturally, the news caused lots of reaction on social media because both liberals and conservatives had thoughts: Republican pundits are slightly sorry to see her go because she was so good at illustrating the insanity that is today’s hard left, while for leftists, it’s a sad day when one of their most venomous ideologues will no longer be able to help incite discord during prime time.

Politics of Climate Tech: Billions spent on geo-engineering despite objections

As wildfires raged in California last month, The Drudge Report mocked Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s suggestion to “make it rain” with cloud seeding.
Days later, the news aggregation website contradicted itself with the headline, “AI Drones to ‘Make It Rain’ in Weather-Control Breakthrough.”
The dichotomy highlighted a little-known war over climate technology, in which billions are being invested not only in cloud seeding (Utah, for example, spends about $700,000 annually spraying silver iodide to make it snow and enhance its water supply), but also more controversial practices.
At the top of the list are “geo-engineering” techniques like Solar Radiation Management (SRM) and Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) – each designed to reduce global temperatures by reflecting a portion of the sun’s energy back into space.
While geo-engineering isn’t a secret, there’s not yet a consensus as to whether it will do more harm than good. And the processes are expected to undergo more scrutiny as Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is reportedly delving into the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which has funded research…

Tigers’ A.J. Hinch impressed with Gleyber Torres’ willingness to be ‘coached hard’

TAMPA — The Tigers visited Steinbrenner Field on Sunday for the first time this spring, but did not bring any of their veterans, including Gleyber Torres.
So the first Torres-Yankees revenge game will have to wait.
But Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has been encouraged by what he has seen from Torres since the ex-Yankee signed a one-year, $15 million contract with Detroit.
“He’s been really great to talk to and digest a lot of what he’s experienced, both in the regular season and the postseason,” Hinch said before the Tigers beat the Yankees 4-0. “He’s been an open book when it’s come to hearing from us on what adjustments he needs to make to be the best version of himself the longest. We’re really happy with his potential and what he can add to our team.
“I’m looking forward to challenging him to be a really big part of this team and being a fixture in the lineup.”

He was admitted on February 14 after struggling with breathing difficulties, later being diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
Various blood tests showed initial, mild, kidney failure, but doctors confirmed that it was under control, adding that the deceased platelet count that was first found on Saturday was also stable.
The complexity of the clinical picture, and the wait for drug therapies to provide some feedback, dictate that the prognosis remains reserved, the doctors added.
Francis was supposed to have celebrated Mass on Sunday morning in St Peter’s…

The terror, the protests and the reunion: Efrat Machikawa’s life since the Israel-Hamas war

Nearly 500 days after the Oct. 7, 2023 attack that shattered their world, cultural diplomat turned activist Efrat Machikawa’s family gathered for a long-awaited moment. Her uncle, 80-year-old Gadi Moses, was finally returning home.
Moses was among 25 Israeli hostages released alive since a truce pact between Israel and Hamas came into effect on Jan. 19. Of the at least 252 hostages taken during the 2023 assault, 63 remain in the Gaza Strip as of Monday, around half of whom the Israeli government believes to be dead.
“My heart was beating out of my chest and, before I knew it, I was running to him — like a little girl racing into the arms of her strong, wonderful uncle. It was a fleeting moment of innocence, a love beyond words.

Australia’s Online Safety Regulator Fines Telegram Nearly $1 Million for Delayed Response

Telegram was asked to provide information on terror and child sexual abuse material on the platform.
Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant has fined Telegram nearly $1 million (US$640,000) for a 160-day delay in responding to a transparency reporting notice.
eSafety said it delivered Telegram, Meta, WhatsApp, Google, Reddit and X transparency reporting notices in March last year under the Online Safety Act 2021.
The online regulator asked Telegram and Reddit what they were doing to detect and remove child sexual exploitation and abuse on their platform.
At the time, she also asked Telegram, Google, Meta, X, WhatsApp, and Reddit to report on how they were protecting Australians from terrorist and violent extremist material and activity.
While Telegram did respond, the eSafety commissioner claims there was a delay until Oct. 13. Other social media platforms engaged by May 6.
As a result, eSafety said they considered Telegram to be non-compliant and delivered them a fine of $957,780 (US$610,500).
