The recent discovery of a submerged car in a Georgia pond could be linked to a wealthy Scarsdale, NY couple who went missing more than 40 years ago and sparked one of the largest searches in the state’s history.

Charles and Catharine Romer, “snowbirds” who lived in the ritzy Westchester County enclave for most of the year, vanished in April 1980 during their trek back north after spending the winter in Florida – a yearly tradition since they married in the mid-1970s, according to past reports.

The couple had dropped their items off at a hotel and went for a drive, but they never returned or were seen or heard from again.

Glynn County police revealed that divers on Friday found a car that matches the 1979 Lincoln Continental used by the retired oil executive, 74, and his second wife, 76, in a pond between an interstate and the hotel the pair checked into shortly before disappearing on April 8, 1980.

“At this time there is no conclusion about the identity of the remains that were found,” police said, according to the…

Taiwan says Chinese balloon detected near island

Taiwan said Monday it had detected a Chinese balloon over waters northwest of the island, the first such sighting since April, as Beijing maintains pressure on Taipei to accept its claims of sovereignty. Communist China claims democratic Taiwan as part of its territory and has refused to renounce the use of force to bring it under its control. Beijing regularly deploys fighter jets, drones and warships around Taiwan, and occasionally balloons, as it keeps up military pressure. California is producing so much solar energy that it has to pay other states — or energy traders — to use it, making electricity cheaper for other states’ residents, while raising energy bills for local residents. The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that California is oversupplying solar energy to such an extent that it is cutting back on solar energy by 3 million megawatts per year, enough to power more than half a million homes. Worse, California pays other utilities to take the excess power, which means consumers in other states are receiving credits on their bills, while California residents are struggling with the burden of subsidizing “green” energy policies. The Times reported: Solar is the linchpin of California’s plan to generate all its electricity from carbon-free sources by 2045, but some energy experts question the feasibility of the plan given the state’s inability to use its existing solar capacity. Elderly man falls to his death during pre-dawn home invasion in NYC apartment building

An elderly man plunged to his death during a home invasion in Washington Heights early Saturday morning after a neighbor saw the victim climb out a window and fall onto scaffolding, according to cops and a report. A trio of burglars descended on an apartment in the residential building near 161st Street and Broadway around 4:30 a.m. after one of the thieves scaled a fire escape, broke through a window and let the other two perps inside through the front door, police said.
