Dorian Finney-Smith a late scratch as Nets’ injuries mount

The Nets have added a new injury to their extended list of unavailable players.

With leading scorer Cam Thomas and several other rotation players sidelined, starting forward Dorian Finney-Smith was a late scratch for Saturday’s game against the Jazz with a left calf contusion.

Second-year forward Noah Clowney made his second started of the season place of Finney-Smith.

“I think he got hit [Thursday in Toronto] and he played through it. Obviously, it’s a precaution and we don’t want to take any risk with the discomfort and everything,” Nets coach Jordi Fernandez said before a 105-94 loss. “So next man up.”

Fernandez had said that Thomas, who hasn’t played since Nov. 25 due to a hamstring issue, will be reevaluated this weekend, but he had no update before the game.

Ziaire Williams (knee), Trendon Watford (hamstring), De’Anthony Melton (knee) and Bojan Bogdanovic (foot) also remained out.

The Nets utilized their 15th different starting lineup through 28 games.

Baseball Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson, the all-time MLB leader in stolen bases, passed away on Friday. He was 65. US Fighter Jet Shot Down Over Red Sea In Disastrous ‘Friendly Fire’ Incident

In the early morning hours of Sunday (local), two US Navy pilots were shot down over the Red Sea in an apparent friendly fire incident. This comes after more than a year of war against Yemeni Houthi rebels, who have targeted international transit in regional waters. The incident is highly unusual given that US and Western allied coalition ships have come under repeat drone and missile from from the Houthis, but have thus far suffered no disclosed losses. The Western coalition has reported no damage or casualties from this long-running battle, and yet it appears the first shootdown of an American fighter jet in the conflict has come by way of US aircraft carrier fire. Pharmaceutical Giant Sued Over ‘Ineffective’ Cold Drugs

Sick customers who bought some cold and flu medications have been falsely assured their nasal congestion would be relieved, an Australian law firm alleges. Lawyers at JGA Saddler have filed a class action on behalf of millions of customers, alleging they were misled by pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson’s over-the-counter medications including Codral Day and Night, Sudafed PE, and Benadryl PE. The class action concerns tablets containing phenylephrine, a substance the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has declared ineffective as a nasal decongestant when taken in tablet form. Johnson & Johnson replaced pseudoephedrine with phenylephrine when the former was taken off shelves over drug abuse concerns in 2006. Brisbane ear, nose and throat specialist Jo-Lyn McKenzie said phenylephrine was not a decongestant. “It’s unconscionable and deeply unethical for corporations to sell health-care products while knowing they don’t work,” Dr McKenzie said.
