NFL eyeing possible onside kick, kickoff changes after inaugural season

The NFL will take a look at a number of kickoff rule changes this offseason after the league was happy with the way the new kickoff rule worked in its first season in 2024. Among the ideas that would be looked at are giving teams possession of the ball at the 35-yard line instead of the 30 and moving the ball from the 30-yard line back five yards on kickoffs, NFL Competition Committee chairman and Falcons CEO Rich McKay told reporters. A MAN in his 20s has been airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a shark in waters off a popular tourist island. The victim was found suffering from abdominal injuries and deep lacerations to his leg. North Korea’s participation in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which gives its troops the opportunity to gain practical combat experience, signals that the war is starting to affect the security situation in East Asia and making the Japanese government wary of the possibility of Pyongyang beefing up its military capabilities. “The military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, including the dispatch of North Korean troops in the war, is expected to cause the situation in Ukraine to deteriorate even further, and we should be seriously concerned over the matter in light of the impact on the security environment surrounding our country,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a news conference Friday. Most USAID workers to be fired or placed on leave

Most employees at USAID will be placed on leave or fired by midnight on Sunday, the aid agency said, as President Donald Trump’s administration plows ahead in slashing government spending. Around 1,600 workers based in the United States will be laid off in a “reduction-in-force” effort, according to a notice on the US Agency for International Development’s website. All other staff directly hired by USAID will be placed on administrative leave globally, except those responsible for “mission-critical functions, core leadership and/or specially designated programs.” The move is a step forward in Trump’s effort to dismantle USAID, which has more than 10,000 employees and operates an array of humanitarian and development programs around the world. The agency announced earlier this month that all staff would be placed on administrative leave — a directive that faced legal challenges. But on Friday, a federal judge lifted an order pausing the Trump administration’s implementation of plans to gut USAID. That it took so long after all the hate she has spewed out on the airwaves is stunning, as Bonchie wrote: I suppose MSNBC deserves some credit for finally making the necessary move, but only a little. They let Reid fester and spread her mouth-breathing hate for far longer than they should have, and it shouldn’t have taken an over 50 percent drop in ratings to get to this point. As wildfires raged in California last month, The Drudge Report mocked Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s suggestion to “make it rain” with cloud seeding. Days later, the news aggregation website contradicted itself with the headline, “AI Drones to ‘Make It Rain’ in Weather-Control Breakthrough.” The dichotomy highlighted a little-known war over climate technology, in which billions are being invested not only in cloud seeding (Utah, for example, spends about $700,000 annually spraying silver iodide to make it snow and enhance its water supply), but also more controversial practices. At the top of the list are “geo-engineering” techniques like Solar Radiation Management (SRM) and Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) – each designed to reduce global temperatures by reflecting a portion of the sun’s energy back into space. While geo-engineering isn’t a secret, there’s not yet a consensus as to whether it will do more harm than good.
