Former Japanese lawmaker Masatoshi Akimoto denies accepting bribes

Former Japanese lawmaker Masatoshi Akimoto on Monday pleaded not guilty to charges of taking bribes from an offshore wind power company over a project in Aomori Prefecture.

Akimoto, a 49-year-old former member of the House of Representatives, has been charged with receiving about ¥72 million in bribes from Masayuki Tsukawaki, a 65-year-old former president of Japan Wind Development.

At the first hearing of his trial at Tokyo District Court, Akimoto said that he received the payment but added that the money was “neither a reward for a job nor a benefit.”

Ontario health-care workers have launched a $170 million class-action lawsuit against the provincial government and its chief medical officer of health, alleging negligence and infringement of privacy rights due to the COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Spearheaded by the United Health Care Workers of Ontario (UHCWO), the civil action challenges the legality of Directive 6, a 2021 public health order issued by Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore. The directive, which came into effect Sept. 7, 2021, required all hospitals to establish, implement, and ensure compliance with a COVID-19 vaccination policy. Is the DB Cooper mystery about to be solved? According to recent reports, this could be the case after FBI agents found evidence linking to a potential suspect.
