Severance finally answered one of its biggest Season 1 questions: “What’s for dinner?”
In Season 2, Episode 6, Outie Irving (John Turturro) headed to Outie Burt’s (Christopher Walken) house for dinner, and Burt’s husband Fields (John Noble) cooked — drumroll, please — ham with a cumin glaze and “special” corn. That’s what’s for dinner, kids! Finally!
The episode, titled “Attila,” showed the trio talking Lumon, religion, severance, and unprotected workplace sex at the dinner table. We also learned that Burt and Fields call each other Attila, a reference to Attila the Hun, who ruled the Huns from 434 to 453 and murdered his brother — just like Kier killed his brother, Dieter. One of the biggest takeaways for me — a Certified Burving Stan who once begged Severance to protect the iconic workplace romance at all costs — was just how difficult it was watching Burt and Irv develop this new outie dynamic, and I’m not alone. Even Severance star John Turturro said it was “odd” welcoming a third person into the beloved Burving Bubble.
