Jill Biden on Monday received the 2024 White House Christmas tree.

Dr. Jill walked out to the tree welcoming ceremony with Hunter’s youngest son, Beau.

The tree, a Frasier fir, came from a Christmas tree farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina.

Jill Biden said the Blue Ridge Mountains was recently devastated by Hurricane Helene and the Cartner family lost thousands of trees in the storm.

“But this one remain standing and they named it ‘Treemendous’ for the extraordinary hope that it represents,” Dr. Jill said.

The Biden White House took the one tree that survived. How symbolic.

The incoming World Health Organization’s regional director for Africa, Faustine Ndugulile, died while receiving treatment in India, Tanzania’s parliament speaker said on Wednesday. The cause of death was not made clear for Ndugulile, an MP for a constituency in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam. The 55-year-old former Tanzanian deputy health minister was nominated as WHO Africa chief in August. He was due to assume office in February 2025 for a five-year term. Speaker of Tanzania’s National Assembly Tulia Ackson said she had received the news “with great sorrow” and funeral plans would be announced later. “His death is a great loss,” she said. A woman who kept her baby daughter in a drawer under her bed until she was discovered weeks before her third birthday was jailed for seven-and-a-half years on Tuesday.
