Mexican president hopes to talk with Trump about tariffs

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday that she hoped to speak with her US counterpart Donald Trump as part of efforts to avoid being hit with his threatened tariffs.

A high-level Mexican delegation is in Washington in search of an agreement and “we hope that we can talk to President Trump once these meetings take place,” Sheinbaum said at her morning news conference.

King Charles III has invited US President Donald Trump for an “unprecedented” second state visit to Britain, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said while visiting the White House on Thursday. “This is really special, this has never happened before, this is unprecedented,” Starmer said in the Oval Office as he handed Trump a hand-signed letter from the monarch containing the invitation. “This is truly historic.” Trump made a state visit during his first term in office in 2019, when he met the late Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles’s mother. “His majesty the king wants to make this even better,” said Starmer, who was at the White House to push Trump to give US security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a deal to end the war with Russia. Canada Moves Closer to Taking Over Russian Cargo Plane for Ukraine

The federal government is moving closer to gaining full control over a massive Russian cargo plane parked in Toronto and hopes to use the proceeds to support Ukraine. In June 2023, the federal government officially seized an aircraft that had been sitting on the tarmac at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport since February 2022. The plane hasn’t moved since then and Ottawa has issued new cabinet orders that clarify the plane’s ownership, pointing to foreign subsidiaries and affiliates of the Russian corporation thought to own the plane. William Pellerin, an Ottawa-based trade lawyer with the firm McMillan LLP, says these steps bring Canada closer to taking full possession the plane and he believes this will happen “imminently” in spite of court challenges. Russia has claimed that Ottawa is undertaking an illegal expropriation and is violating the terms of the foreign investment protocol Moscow signed with Ottawa decades ago. Christianity in America may no longer be in decline, according to a new Pew Research Center survey that also reveals hopeful signs for the future of the faith across the nation. Pew’s latest Religious Landscape Studies survey shows that 62 percent of Americans identify as Christian, a number that is slightly more than 2022 (60) and just one point lower than 2020 (64). The stability is a welcome sign for the nation’s church leaders, who have watched Christian identity in Pew surveys fall from 78 percent in 2007, to 71 percent in 2014 and then roughly another 10 points to its present level. “After many years of steady decline, the share of Americans who identify as Christians shows signs of leveling off,” a report summary said. Police in Loveland, Colorado have arrested a suspect in connection with several “offensive and hateful” vandalism incidents involving incendiary devices at the local Tesla dealership. The suspect, who goes by the name Lucy Grace Nelson, is a biological male (formerly Justin Thomas Nelson). The alleged “trantifa” activist was arrested just before midnight on Monday after a weeks long investigation and “incorrectly booked” into the Larimer County Jail as a female, according to the Post Millennial’s Andy Ngo on X. All the major media outlets, including the Denver Post, CBS News, ABC News, NBC News, CNN, and Fox News, are referring to Nelson as a woman in their reports.
