NFL still planning to stage playoff game between Rams and Vikings in LA

The NFL said it is continuing preparations to hold the playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams in Los Angeles on Monday despite a series of devastating wildfires in the region, but could change the location of the game to Glendale, Arizona, if necessary.

Raging wildfires surrounded Los Angeles on Wednesday, killing at least five people, destroying hundreds of homes and stretching firefighting resources and water supplies to the limit, as more than 100,000 people were ordered to evacuate.

“The NFL’s priority is the safety of the Los Angeles community,” the league said in a statement.

New York Court Denies Trump’s Bid to Halt Friday’s Sentencing

New York’s top appeals court on Thursday denied President-elect Donald Trump’s request to halt Friday’s sentencing for his conviction last year on falsified business records. One judge of the New York Court of Appeals issued a brief order declining to grant a hearing to Trump’s legal team. No explanation was given to Trump’s attorneys. In a filing to the court this week, Trump’s attorneys had said Justice Juan Merchan and the state’s mid-level appellate court both “erroneously failed” to stop the sentencing, arguing that the Constitution requires an automatic pause as they appeal the judge’s ruling upholding the verdict. When announcing the sentencing date, Merchan indicated that he would not issue fines, probation, or jail time. A Manhattan jury had found Trump guilty of falsifying business records in connection to payments he made during the 2016 campaign. Trump had pleaded not guilty and denied any wrongdoing. Higher bond yields “main risk” to US share prices

Investing.com – Higher bond yields are the “main risk” to share prices in the US and will give support to the dollar in the near term, analysts at BCA Research have argued. Longer-dated US Treasury yields have soared to multi-month highs, with the yield on the benchmark 10-year note hitting more than 4.7% on Wednesday — a level not seen since April. Yields typically move inversely to prices.
