New York City will be shutting down its operation to house migrants in the coming months, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The hotel has been used as a hub for many who have crossed the border illegally during the Biden administration.
Adams, a Democrat who has moderated on the issue of illegal immigration, said that the intake hub closing down its operations will be a “milestone” for New York City. Over 232,000 migrants have come to the city since spring 2022, per the New York Post.
“While we’re not done caring for those that came into our care, today marks another milestone in demonstrating the immense progress we have achieved in turning the corner on the unprecedented international humanitarian effort,” Adams said.
