South Africa is a prime target for a hostile takeover by opportunistic authoritarian state players. South Africa conducts joint military exercises with both Russia and China, and is accused of supplying Russia with munitions for its crusade against Ukraine. Iran and its proxy Hamas are both a cause célèbre among ANC politicians, with Hamas having permanent representatives in Cape Town. Although the African National Congress (ANC) remains the dominant political party in South Africa after the 2024 national elections, its power is significantly diminished in addition to its reduced parliamentary representation. After failing to command a majority, the ANC is the largest faction of South Africa’s so-called Government of National Unity – although there is little unity among its large number of members. To describe the government as a fragile coalition would be more accurate.

French President Emmanuel Macron is due to travel to the islands on Thursday. An overnight curfew was declared by French authorities in the ocean territory of Mayotte on Tuesday as they sought to stabilize the islands and prevent looting in the wake of Cyclone Chido. France’s military says it is sending four to five planes a day with up to 50 tons of assistance, including food, water, and medical supplies, as they try to cope after the strongest storm to hit the island in nine decades devastated France’s poorest territory off the African coast. Hundreds of military personnel have arrived in the archipelago as the official death toll rises to 22, but authorities fear the true figure is hundreds, or possibly thousands more. Jesse Hutch has spent more than two decades in the acting industry, but his career nearly ended before it even began due to a whitewater accident that left him submerged for at least 11 minutes. “I should be dead,” Hutch told Crosswalk Headlines. Hutch can be seen in three new projects this month: the new Angel Studios film and accompanying TV series Homestead, and the Great American Family movies Christmas Under the Northern Lights and A Little Women’s Christmas. To this day, though, Hutch considers it a “miracle” that he’s even alive. During his younger years, Hutch was a whitewater raft guide who — in his words — lived and worked on the river. But at age 21, his life nearly ended during an accident that stopped both his heart and his breathing.
