The UN rights chief insisted Friday that regulating harmful content online “is not censorship”, days after Meta scrapped its fact-checking programme on Facebook and Instagram citing censorship concerns. “Allowing hate speech and harmful content online has real world consequences. UN Rules Australia Breached Human Rights Obligations With Offshore Detention of Asylum Seekers

UN has urged Australia to compensate the victims and reform migration legislation and bilateral agreements to prevent similar violations. The U.N. Human Rights Committee has declared Australia legally responsible for the arbitrary detention of asylum seekers in offshore processing facilities. The two cases relate to agreements signed between Australia and Nauru in 2012 and 2013, with the Pacific nation hosting detainees in return for payments. Committee member Mahjoub El Haiba emphasised that outsourcing detention does not exempt Australia from its human rights responsibilities. “Where a state exercises effective control over an area, its obligations remain firmly in place and cannot be transferred,” El Haiba stated. The Committee has urged Australia to compensate the victims, and reform migration legislation to prevent future violations. It also called for enhanced alignment with international human rights obligations, stressing that such rulings reinforce the importance of safeguarding human dignity. Several years ago, in an effort to cheer me up after a particularly rough year, friends came from out-of-town to visit me. We had a blast, and one of the things we enjoyed was watching ‘Tiger King’ together. All of my friends had already seen it, so their entertainment was watching me watching it for the first time. And in that documentary, just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, they did, and I was basically agape the entire time we watched it. Altadena Family Sings Christian Hymns over Destroyed Home

A family in Altadena went viral this week with video of them singing Christian hymns over the rubble of their home that burned in the Eaton fire just north of Pasadena near Los Angeles. Shared by former Full House actress and The View co-host Candace Cameron Bure on her Instagram Stories as well as Catholic reporter Sachin Jose. Take a look: The home belonged to the Halpin family, who have reportedly lived there for over 35 years, raising six children and many more grandchildren, according to the family’s GoFundMe page, which has raised over $60,000 since the publishing of this article.
