Father of missing Hawaii photographer Hannah Kobayashi found dead near LAX while searching for daughter

The father of the missing Hawaii woman who vanished while heading to New York City for a vacation was found dead near LAX early Sunday morning. Ryan Kobayashi, 58, was in Los Angeles to search for his 30-year-old daughter, Hannah Kobayashi, after she missed a connecting flight to New York from Los Angeles International Airport over two weeks ago. Police confirmed that Kobayashi died after he jumped off from a parking structure near LAX sometime around 4 a.m. on Sunday, according to NBC Los Angeles. Officers in Los Angeles revealed Ryan Kobayashi’s body was found in a parking lot early on Sunday morning. Japan’s top financial firms are working hard to earn fees in what could be the biggest-ever buyout deal. Itochu has tapped Daiwa Securities Group and the founding Ito family has hired SMBC Nikko Securities as financial advisers for their ¥9 trillion ($58.4 billion) proposal to take Seven & I Holdings private, people with knowledge of the matter said. Taiwan says Chinese balloon detected near island

Taiwan said Monday it had detected a Chinese balloon over waters northwest of the island, the first such sighting since April, as Beijing maintains pressure on Taipei to accept its claims of sovereignty. Communist China claims democratic Taiwan as part of its territory and has refused to renounce the use of force to bring it under its control. Beijing regularly deploys fighter jets, drones and warships around Taiwan, and occasionally balloons, as it keeps up military pressure. The latest balloon was spotted at 6:21 pm (1021 GMT) on Sunday about 111 kilometres (69 miles) northwest of Keelung City at an altitude of 33,000 feet (10,058 metres), said the defence ministry, which releases daily data on China’s military presence around Taiwan. It entered the island’s air defence identification zone and disappeared at 8:15 pm, the ministry said. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has backed the ban, urging the government to finalise the bill before Christmas. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has urged both Houses to pass the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024 on Nov. 25. The Bill will restrict under 16 year olds from accessing social media, with a few exceptions. “It will be something we can be very proud of. Let’s give parents new peace of mind. Let’s work together,” he told the Parliament, asking them to work together to pass the bill by end of this week. This is the last session of Parliament for the year. “Social media companies must take responsibility for the social harm caused by their platforms,” Albanese said. California Wastes Solar Power While Consumers Pay

California is producing so much solar energy that it has to pay other states — or energy traders — to use it, making electricity cheaper for other states’ residents, while raising energy bills for local residents. The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that California is oversupplying solar energy to such an extent that it is cutting back on solar energy by 3 million megawatts per year, enough to power more than half a million homes. Worse, California pays other utilities to take the excess power, which means consumers in other states are receiving credits on their bills, while California residents are struggling with the burden of subsidizing “green” energy policies. The Times reported: Solar is the linchpin of California’s plan to generate all its electricity from carbon-free sources by 2045, but some energy experts question the feasibility of the plan given the state’s inability to use its existing solar capacity. Elderly man falls to his death during pre-dawn home invasion in NYC apartment building

An elderly man plunged to his death during a home invasion in Washington Heights early Saturday morning after a neighbor saw the victim climb out a window and fall onto scaffolding, according to cops and a report. A trio of burglars descended on an apartment in the residential building near 161st Street and Broadway around 4:30 a.m. after one of the thieves scaled a fire escape, broke through a window and let the other two perps inside through the front door, police said. The burglars tied up a 40-year-old man and stole a gold chain worth around $8,000 and about $200 in cash, according to authorities.
