Remember Tim Walz? It may seem like it’s been an eternity, but less than four months ago, many thought he was on a glidepath to becoming Vice President of the United States. Boy, did Americans dodge that bullet.

Best known for calling JD Vance “weird” in the greatest act of projection in human history, Walz is back in Minnesota, reprising his role as one of worst governors in the country. As RedState reported, that includes acting like a hysterical lunatic, with Walz being caught on tape claiming that the country is being “stolen” by “fascists and nazis.”

We did get to cover some of this on Wednesday on Bloomberg TV (starts at the 52 minute mark)… …but here is a quick summary. Tariffs A lot of confusing messaging this week, some of which has to be corrected. The negative news is that tariffs seem likely to be imposed, and even if they get relieved later on, some damage to the economy will be done. Mexico did deliver some cartel leaders to the U.S., so maybe they get another reprieve, which would be good for markets, but as a whole, my view is that no matter how tariffs play out, they are impacting the global economy negatively. Decisions are being made to front run them (which artificially propped up some data) but will leave companies somewhat frozen in terms of hiring decisions. Social Security Announces Significant Workforce Reductions

The decision follows Trump’s Feb. 11 executive order asking agencies to prepare for ‘large-scale reductions in force.’ The Social Security Administration (SSA) is set to lay off a large number of employees, with workers being offered incentives of up to $25,000 for voluntary separation, the department said in a Feb. 27 statement. Offices that perform functions not mandated by statute could be prioritized for workforce reductions, including staffing cuts, reassignments, and abolishing positions and organizations. SSA will “soon implement agency-wide organizational restructuring that will include significant workforce reductions,” the department said. The agency “may reassign employees from non-mission critical positions to mission critical direct service positions (e.g., field offices, teleservice centers, processing centers). Reassignments may be involuntary and may require retraining for new workloads.” Employees who do not wish to participate in the restructuring process may choose to leave federal service through various retirement or resignation programs, including Voluntary Separation Incentive Payments (VSIP) and Voluntary Early Retirement Authority (VERA).
