President-elect Donald Trump’s team is currently in talks with digital assets experts about the possibility of creating a new White House position that is dedicated entirely to cryptocurrency policy, according to a report from Bloomberg News.
People familiar with the Trump transition team’s efforts told the outlet that several candidates are currently being evaluated for the position, which would be the first crypto-specific office in the history of the United States.
It is unclear whether the jobholder will be given an official role in the White House staff, or if they will be designated as a “crypto czar.” Presidents have long appointed officials to serve in a number of regulatory under the title of “czar” without an official confirmation process. Cryptocurrency advocates are pushing for the officeholder to have a direct line to President-elect Trump.
