President-elect Donald Trump has named former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Chief Executive Linda McMahon as his pick for secretary of the Department of Education.
McMahon, who co-founded and led WWE with her husband Vince McMahon, previously served as the administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) from 2017 to 2019 during the first Trump administration. After resigning from the SBA, she became chair of America First Action, a pro-Trump super PAC while currently leading the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a think tank advocating for Trump-aligned policies. She also served on the Connecticut Board of Education for two years and was a trustee at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut for 16 years.
“It is my great honor to announce that Linda McMahon, former administrator of the Small Business Administration, will be the United States Secretary of Education,” Trump announced on Nov. 19. “For the past four years, as the chair of the Board at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), Linda has been a fierce advocate for Parents’ Rights, working hard at both AFPI and America First Works (AFW) to achieve Universal School Choice in 12 States, giving children the opportunity to receive an excellent education, regardless of zip code or income.”
Trump continued: “As Secretary of Education, Linda will fight tirelessly to expand ‘choice’ to every State in America and empower parents to make the best Education decisions for their families. Linda will use her decades of leadership experience, and deep understanding of both education and business, to empower the next generation of American students and workers and make America number one in education in the world. We will send education back to the states, and Linda will spearhead that effort.”
Trump wants to dismantle Education Department due to its “left-wing indoctrination”
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump has been reiterating his desire to dismantle the Education Department due to its “left-wing indoctrination in public schools.”
Trump even promised to eliminate federal funding for institutions promoting “critical race theory, transgender insanity and other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content” to children. He also proposed penalties for public universities that endorse diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and vowed to withhold endowment funds for schools promoting such programs.
“We will drain the government education swamp and stop the abuse of your taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America’s youth with all sorts of things that you don’t want to have our youth hearing,” the president-elect said.
McMahon shared the same sentiment with Trump when she confirmed in a separate statement before the announcement that she would remain “committed to working tirelessly to ensure every student has access to a quality education.” (Related: Top 10 ways to DECONSTRUCT and RECONSTRUCT the entire education system in America as top priority for incoming Trump Administration.)
“I’ve witnessed the transformative power of education, both in the classroom and also in apprenticeship programs,” McMahon said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with students – educators – parents and communities to strengthen our educational system; ensuring every child regardless of their demographics is prepared for a bright future.”
