There are very few times when this writer is rendered speechless.

This is one of those times. She tried really, really hard to think of something clever to write to open this piece and, yeah, she’s got nothing.

Because this is like a bad SNL skit.

As wildfires ravage LA, the gross incompetence of city and local government is coming to light. Back in 2022, the LAFD donated its surplus equipment to Ukraine. Just months ago, LA Mayor Karen Bass cut the LAFD budget by almost $18 million.

And now apparently the LAFD has to take some creative measures to fight the fires. WATCH:

Apollo weighs $9.5 billion stake in Seven & I management buyout

Apollo Global Management is considering taking a substantial stake in a bid by Seven & I’s founding Ito family to take the convenience store operator private, people familiar with the matter said. The U.S. private equity giant is discussing a commitment of as much as ¥1.5 trillion ($9.5 billion) for an equity stake in the plan, said the people, who asked not to be identified as the information isn’t public. Under the current proposal, which is subject to change, Apollo would join the Ito family and Itochu, the operator of FamilyMart in Japan, as key investors. Loblaw Issues Apology Following Reports Underweight Meat Sold in Stores

Grocery giant Loblaws has issued an apology after reports some of its stores were selling underweight meat, a year after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) first dealt with the matter. The selling of underweight meat was first reported in 2023 by Winnipeg Lake resident Iris Griffin, who noticed a difference between the store package weight and how much meat she received. That led to a complaint to the CFIA. Now a CBC investigation has found that Loblaws, Sobeys, and Walmart stores are still including the weight of packaging in the price of the meat, overcharging customers by between 4 and 11 percent. Griffin told The Epoch Times that she was portioning the meat when she first found the discrepancy. ”I took the weight on the label, and I divided it by four. And I was like, ‘Okay, this is my target for each of these portions’. And then I got to the last portion, I thought, I’m 134 grams short.” When she weighed the plastic packaging, it weighed 134 grams. […]

Liberals melted down Wednesday when President-elect Donald Trump posted a statement to Truth Social placing the blame for the out-of-control wildfires in California on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s failure to sign the water restoration declaration put before him. Quite a few people have tried to lay responsibility for the wildfires on Trump. David Axelrod pointed to an AP story to suggest that Trump calling climate change a hoax and scrapping plans to battle it contributed to the fires. The Bulwark’s Sam Stein also chimed in, saying “it dawns on you that Trump, set to take office in 13 days, has threatened publicly to cut wildfire aid to the state.” Yes, he has, if they don’t step up and take some action to prevent these sorts of wildfires. As we reported Wednesday, a reporter for Politico actually wrote that “Republicans are seizing on the catastrophic wildfires” and that Trump and Elon Musk had “unleashed” on California Democrats.
